Phishing Trends: May - July 2022

For the May - July 2022 period, we observed a

33% INCREASE IN PHISHING ATTACKS REPORTED 

11% INCREASE IN DOMAIN NAMES REPORTED FOR PHISHING

15% INCREASE IN BRANDS TARGETED

5% DECREASE IN HOSTING NETWORKS WHERE PHISHING WEB SITES WERE REPORTED

The phishing trends reported here complement the phishing activity reported for Top-level Domains, domain registrars, and hosting networks during the May 1, 2022 - July 31, 2022 period.

Our quarterly Phishing Activity pages report where we observe phishing attacks by Top-level Domains, Domain Registrars, and Hosting Networks. Here, we share some closer looks at the phishing landscape.

When criminals register domains purposely for phishing, they appear to “favor” certain registrars for certain TLDs. Whether this is related to the registrar’s fees for registrations, or its security or business practices, are questions worthy of additional study.
